There are several ways of considering how to play jazz guitar. Some players see jazz as a way to learn guitar improvisation. Others see the guitar as a jazz instrument accompanied by a repertoire of songs. So it seems the Jazz repertoire will be the only thing common in the variety of playing styles and levels of innovation.
